Halloween 101

The origins of Halloween date back over 2,000 years ago to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain.

The Celts were people who lived in the areas that are now the United Kingdom, France, and Ireland.

To them, November 1st was the day of the new year and it was the beginning of winter, which was associated with death.

It was believed the day prior to the new year — what is now Halloween — was a day when the land of the living and the dead were brought together.

As such, they celebrated the festival of Samhain on this day to ward off the spirits of the dead that had returned to earth.

It was believed the other worldly spirits would not only damage crops but that their very presence made it easier for the Druids and Celtic priests to see into the future and make predictions, which was important to them as the coldness and darkness of winter was on their doorstep.

During the festival, people would dress up in costumes — the costumes would consist of animal heads and animal skins — and light massive fires, burning crops and giving animal sacrifice to keep away the spirits of the dead.

After the Roman Empire had taken over the majority of Celtic territory during the 1st century, the festivals from each of their peoples were combined.

Pope Gregory of the eighth century dedicated November 1st as a day to honor all saints, and the day prior was known as All Hallows Eve.

All Hallows was similar to the Celtic Samhain festival; it consisted of large bonfires and dressing up in costumes as devils and angels, as well as parades.

Eventually, All Hallows Even became known as Halloween, and just like some of the traditions of Samhain, people still dress up in costumes.

Over time, Halloween started to become more Americanized as folk would tell stories of the dead, dance, sing, and hold public celebration.

Trick-or-treating became part of the celebration where people would dress up in costumes and go to houses asking for money or food.

As more time passed, Halloween became further cemented as a holiday about community and parties rather than superstition.

Halloween Contact Lenses Online

When it comes to colored contact lenses, one of the most common uses besides improving the beauty of one’s eyes for aesthetic purposes is for Halloween.

That’s why, at Stylish Stare, we have a very large selection of Halloween cosmetic contacts that can be used for a host of different costumes and cosplays.

One of the most popular Halloween costumes that our customers dress up as is the Zombie. Of course, the zombie requires a lot of details like blood stains, torn flesh, typically pale makeup, torn clothing, and zombie-like movements. However, to truly finish off the zombie costume, getting an appropriate pair of lenses are ideal. And nothing says zombie like the multiple different zombie designs that we have in our Halloween selection here at Stylish Stare.

For example, our white Halloween contacts come in multiple different models, such as those which change the iris to white and exposing only the iris; those which have a very prominent limbal ring giving that zombie eye-popping effect; those with blood splattered designs which give that diseased eye look; and the popular mesh design which give that glazed over milky white hue look to your eyes.

Another famous Halloween costume is the werewolf. And if you’re looking to dress up as a werewolf, then why not try out a pair of our werewolf contact lenses. Unlike the zombie, the werewolf has quite a few more options. The eyes of a werewolf are not universal: if you’re going with the classic wolf look, then perhaps you’d want to try a simple color that is common among wolf irises, such as white, yellow, or blue. On the other hand, if you’re looking to get a mythical werewolf look, try our wolf designs that come in red, orange, yellow, grey, green, and even purple.

With the popularity of werewolves in the media nowadays, such as in shows like Teen Wolf, there are many different eye colors that can work. At Stylish Stare, we have a large variety that you can choose from to get the eyes of the exact werewolf you’re going for. And if you’re looking for something a little different, why not try our glow in the dark designs, which will give you a bright wolfish stare when the lights go out, similar to how they light up in the show Teen Wolf. And if you’re looking to be the alpha wolf, then consider trying our blue Halloween lenses and particularly in an ice blue color, which is the rarest of colors in the werewolf eye hierarchy.

Another popular choice for Halloween circle lenses is Vampire contacts. Vampires are basically the most well known of all the mythical creatures across time. And among the vampires, the most well known is Dracula.

If you’re trying to get vampire eyes, then you have a lot of options. Probably the most classic looks for them would be a rich, deep red color, which you’ll find in our selection of red Halloween eye contacts here at Stylish Stare. However, vampire eyes can work with many different color irises, which you’ll also find within our selection. Choose from common colors such as red, yellow, orange, green, blue, and brown.

If you’re going more for a Twilight kind of vampire, then choose from our rich red, amber, or hazel color designs for a look that truly matches the vampires from the Twilight movies. And if you’re looking for something with a bit more depth, then choose popular vampire colors in our designs which feature flecks of black — giving a great look for vampires.

Yet another popular choice when it comes to Halloween eye contacts is those which work great for a witch outfit. Witches aren’t just about pointy hats, dark clothes, and broomsticks, and you can really complete the look with a great pair of witch lenses. However, there really isn’t a determined eye color for the witch; so just about any color can work. Although we find yellow, red, and especially green makes for a great witches eye.

Green is a color that works great for the traditional cartoony black pointy hat, black clothes, and broomstick style witch. On the other hand, even the modern witches, who practice Wicca, could wear our green Halloween contacts, as green is associated with nature and growth.

Another popular choice when it comes to Halloween eye contacts is those which help to complete a devil costume. There are many different types of devil characters that you could be for Halloween. Many people like to dress up as a sexy devil, an innocent devil, a scary devil, or everything in between.

For a sexy or innocent devil, a pair of bright red, dark red, or even pink lenses be exactly what you’re looking for. On the other hand, if you’re going for a scarier and more demonic devil look, then a deep red, dark red, or blood splattered design is something to consider. Whatever choice of lens you choose from Stylish Stare, just be sure to pair it with the appropriate attire, and you’re sure to make a great devil for Halloween.

Yet another popular choice for Halloween as it relates to Halloween lenses is scary lenses. These are lenses that aren’t specifically tied to a certain character or type of Halloween costume but can be applied to a broad assortment of Halloween characters and outfits.

Another design worth mentioning as it relates to Halloween is our lens designs that glow under uv lights. These can give a great effect if you’re going for that monster or other Halloween character which you’d like to have eyes for that will literally glow in the dark.

Also, maybe you’re looking to go out as a cat or another member of the feline family for Halloween? In that case, you’d do well to check out our range of cat lenses. These lenses come in a variety of colors and have an elongated pupil design, allowing you to get that vertical slit pupil look known to felines.

If you’re going out as a sexy cat and are looking for the appropriate pair of Halloween costume contacts to match your outfit, then be sure to try our cat designs out. On the other hand, a tiger, reptilian, or even an unrelated monster will also benefit from this style of vertical slit pupil design — the possibilities with this one are practically endless!

Or maybe something that completely covers the iris, so it looks like your eye is completely white or black — to really get that haunting effect. In this case, you’ll want to check out our white or black Halloween contacts as these can create an effect that whites out or blacks out the iris or the entire eye — the perfect way to create the most frightening eye-effect.
