Anime 101

Anime’s history dates back to Japan’s film industry which started in the early 1900s.

In the beginning, anime wasn’t animated like it is today; rather, it was created using a variety of other techniques, such as with chalk and chalkboards, paper designs, and even painting on the film itself.

The first animated film in Japan was thought to be around 1917 by Skimokawa Oten, which was produced using chalk and was very brief.

Other works around this time made use of chalk on chalkboards which consisted of drawing and erasing in between camera takes. Subsequent methods such as 2d stop motion paper cutouts were later used as they were less labor-intensive.

Interestingly, anime was also a source for government propaganda, especially during World War 2.

After World War 2, the first real Japanese animation company was born: Toei. And at first, their works were much in the same themes as Walt Disney.

Anime didn’t become very popular until the sixties when TVs were popularized. At this time, Toei released full-fledged anime shows specifically for TV such as Ditto Shotaro Ishinomori’s Cyborg 009.

1963 was a particularly important time for anime as it began to shift from being solely for Japan to a now wider audience such as the Americas.

The first major animated show to make its way to the United States of America was Astro Boy.

The 1970s brought even further popularity to the television, and so many animators started to work more on TV. During this time period, popular shows like Mazinger Z, Mobile Suit Gundam, and Space Battleship Yamato came out.

With the home video in the 1980s, anime became even more popular as fans could re-watch their favorite anime or an altered version of it on VHS.

The 1990s brought in anime shows like Neon Genesis Evangelion, which “broke the mold” so to speak, bringing anime to a more mainstream and mature audience.

Also, the internet, DVDs, and shows like Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, and Pokemon made anime even more popular around the world.

Although it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows; the 2000s brought some problems for the anime industry. Japan’s economy was suffering, there was less leeway for artistic or new concepts in anime, and conditions for workers was at a breaking point.

The internet, piracy, and bootleg DVDs also had a negative impact on the anime industry during this time.

Today, the anime industry is earning more than ever and is more popular than ever, largely thanks to digital distribution services. However, it is still not without its problems, and whether it is healthier than ever, isn’t so clear.

Become Your Favorite Character With Anime Cosmetic Lenses

Are you looking to become your favorite anime character or just get really kawaii looking eyes?

Maybe you’re looking to complete your cosplay costume and not sure which kind of anime eye contacts are the best for your outfit.

Our non prescription anime contacts are a great way to complete any cosplay outfit and to become your favorite character. On the other hand, you can also wear them on their own to simply have a unique iris or eye.

Now, if you have specific eye requirements, then you’ll find good use for our prescription anime contacts. Here you’ll be able to choose your preferred anime model by a specific prescription to suit your eye needs.

Looking to dress us as your favorite anime character such as from a hit anime like Naruto? In that case, give our anime circle lenses that are specifically dedicated to the Naruto series a try — you won’t be disappointed.

But what if you’re looking for another anime character’s contact lenses from another anime of which there isn’t a particular model for. In this case, know that we’ve chosen our anime colored contacts to work with a whole bunch of different anime and anime characters based on similar designs and patterns.

For instance, maybe your chosen anime character has bright blue eyes. In that case, be sure to try an appropriate pair of blue-styled anime lenses which you’ll find throughout our anime range.

One of the differences between anime lenses and our regular cosmetic lenses is the designs and color coverage. Generally, instead of multiple shades that blend into your natural iris our anime range will use single, bold, or bright colors that completely change your natural iris, giving you that cartoon iris look.

There are other combinations you can get as well to achieve a greater resemblance to that favorite anime character you are trying to emulate.

For instance, some of our anime cosplay contacts have a pronounced and bold black limbal ring.

When you combine single, bold, or bright colors with a pronounced and bold black limbal ring it gives you that single tone cartoony iris effect, along with an eye-popping effect thanks to the limbal ring, that is common in a lot of anime characters.

Maybe you’re looking to really get larger eyes? In that case, consider our anime big eye lenses which will come in larger diameters such as 14.5mm and up, as well as featuring prominent and bold limbal rings.

But perhaps you’re in the mood for something a bit more feminine like our anime girl contacts. These colored lenses will make use of more traditionally feminine colors like pinks, light reds, or light browns; however, they can also use more neutral colors like blue, green, or brown.

On the other hand, you might be looking for a more sparkling effect with your lenses like glistening anime eyes. And if that’s your thing, then consider our two tone anime lenses or even our three tone versions, as these lenses will make use of 2 to 3 shades of color to create a more complex and eye-catching pattern.

Additionally, two and three tone lenses often give the impression of a more youthful iris — perfect for getting that anime eyes look from your lenses.

Want to save even more money? If you’re looking to wear your lenses for a specific cosplay event or Halloween party then you can save a few bucks by choosing from our selection of anime lenses based on lifespan.

For instance, if you’re looking to wear your lenses only for a single event, such as a single days anime convention, then you might want to consider checking if your desired pair can be purchased in a daily, weekly, or monthly lifespan —  the amount of time they are designed to last after first being worn.

On the other hand, if you want to re-wear your lenses multiple times over, then its probably going to actually be more cost-effective to choose a yearly lifespan lens — the most popular lens lifespan.

Remember, when it comes to choosing a pair of anime contact lenses for your next event, there’s no need to look elsewhere because, at Stylish Stare, we’ve got you covered.
